Children Of Divorce
Children of divorce go through hardships due to the separation of the parents, telling the children about a looming divorce is one of the most distressing tasks that divorcing parents do not wish to have to face not to mention the single child rearing task ahead once the news has been told. To be able to cope with how to tell them and to positively raise them whether as single or shared custody, we should first get to understand the child’s major worries.
A child, especially the younger age has this idyllic picture of a complete family system. Thus, when a separation or divorce occurs, this harms his or her imagery of the perfect family set up, feeling of a loss, sense of insecurity or separation apprehension, which could result in the child turning to be unruly and having a defiant behavior as his or her way of getting to be given attention. This should not really happen though, when principally what the child is yearning for is emotional security, feel of belonging and parental care.
To be capable of telling the children with the least damaging impact, here are some of the things to have in mind when dealing with the task of breaking the news of separation:
Children of divorce particularly require to be given assurance that they will always be given love, that they are not losing parental affection, but the mom and dad just have variances and that it will be good for either parent to be separate. Similarly, your child does not have to get along with all people by sheer matter of personal differences.
Children of divorce in certain circumstances will be exposed and introduced to the new parent. This is a source of concern particularly because they will often have their allegiance for their biological mom or dad. In such a situation, even if you are desirous to talk bad of your ex. For the sake of your children, it will be prudent that you do not speak bad of your ex, so that they will not have a bitter, resentful approach which could later on affect their manners in adolescence and adulthood. It is best regarded as a matter of dissimilarities between you and your ex. This will at least make it easier for you and for the children, should it turn out that you meet someone new that you will slowly introduce as well.
Strengthen your tie even further with your children. Do things together whether school work, fun, house duties; give praises every now and then, hugs, and signs of affection. Children of divorce have this distinct emotional insecurity and they require all the encouragement and affirmation they can get.
Communicate frequently with your child – inspire open communication so that anything your child feels you can tend to immediately lest bitterness builds up in the child. Do not often presume that anything you see in your child is all there is. A steady open communication is necessary. Children of divorce should be given utmost care, and when you introduce a new partner, you should try to foster good relationship between them.
